Fall sports tryouts/practices (cross country, football, soccer, volleyball and water polo) are August 24-28. Students who want to participate must complete a participation form, have a current physical on file (they are good for two years), and pay the appropriate fee, $190 for athletics and $75 for activities Athletic paperwork can be turned in beginning August 17, when the athletic secretary returns from summer break. All required paperwork (participation form, physical, and/or fee) must be submitted together.

All students are encouraged to attend Apollo Preview Days. This is your opportunity to complete a variety of important tasks, such as picking up your class schedule, paying fees, and taking school pictures. Each grade is assigned a designated time:

  • Sept 1st   from 12:00 - 1:30  Grades 9 & 12
  • Sept 1st   from   2:00 - 3:30  Grade 10
  • Sept 2nd from 12:00 - 1:30 Grade 11
  • Sept 2nd from   2:00 - 1:30 Open to All

Sunset student Lexie Franklin-Grant competed in the Country Classic Horseshow in July, earning a grant for Sunset's library through the Riding for Reading program. Congratulations Lexie!

Language Arts teacher, Catherine Kernodle, was honored with a National Endowment for the Arts award to study poetry and poetry instruction at Northwestern University in Chicago during the summer.

In addition, Ms. Kernodle received a Miller Foundation grant for new teachers to study this summer at Harvard University in the Project Zero program. Congratulations Catherine!
