Academic Challenges
If a student is struggling in certain classes, the first step is talking with the teacher. Counselors can also help facilitate that communication if needed. There are also other academic supports that can be accessed.
At Sunset:
Access Tutorial (Period 8) Tutoring Center: Occurs during Access Tutorial (Period 8). This center is staffed by Sunset 11th and 12th graders with the mentorship of two Sunset teachers. Please click HERE for more information.
Homework Club: To Be Determined for 2011-12.
Weekly/Daily Checksheets: If you would like a way to monitor your child's progress more frequently and also hold him or her more accountable, please try the "Student Checksheet" linked below. The checksheet is a tool to help facilitate communication between the student and teacher and stay on track with homework and assignments.
Outside Sunset:
Courses Outside of Sunset
Some students need to take courses online in order to recover credits, build skills before moving to the next level, or to get ahead. We encourage students to take our curriculum here at Sunset but realize there are special circumstances. Here are links to online high school programs we typically work with. Please let the counselor know if you decide to take online courses.
If you would like to take a course at Portland Community College or another higher education institution, please consult your Counselor to discuss the process for enrollment.
